There are many different factors to consider when it comes to maintaining your hair colour, including the colour and treatment you have had, the condition of your hair, and the environment you
will be in. Please feel free to contact your Stylist to ensure you understand the correct aftercare advice for you.
Generalised advice for most hair colours is as follows:
- To maintain your colour, wash in lukewarm water rather than hot water, and after conditioning, do a final rinse in cold water which will seal the hair cuticle and stop your colour escaping
- Don’t wash your hair for 72 hours after colour to allow hair cuticle to close and lock in colour
- Use good colour care, sulphate-free shampoo and conditioners. Our Stylists can advise on the Neal and Wolf product range if you need any advice.
- Use a deep conditioner once a week
- Wash hair less often to prolong the colour, and use a dry shampoo between washes if needed.
- Try to avoid over exposure to sun and use UV hair protection if you can't avoid exposure.
- Avoid dandruff shampoos and clarifying treatments as these can strip the colour out, thick treatment masks can also drag colour out of hair.
- Use heat protection on hair before using hot tools as heat can also strip out colour.
- After colouring don’t use too many chemical such as too much hairspray, and styling products with alcohol it them.
- Avoid chlorine, for at least 2 weeks as it’s a bleaching agent, meaning it can turn bleached hair green and dark hair can turn dull and lose its shine.
- For highlighted hair, only use straighteners with a ceramic or tourmaline plate after applying heat protection.
- Never use straighteners on damp hair, only dry. Straighteners should have heat settings on, use mid-way setting to avoid burning hair.
- Maintain your hair routine, and have regular trims so that ends don’t get too dry.
